Explorers relaunch: bigger, bolder, more adventure
We're relaunching Explorers as a section in its own right — with a bold new look and a clear goal: more outdoor time, more adventure, and real leadership opportunities for young people aged 14 to 18.
Something big is happening for our older young people. We’re relaunching Explorers — giving the section its own identity, its own space, and a clear mission to grow into one of the biggest and best Explorer units around.
A section in its own right
Until now, Explorers has often run in the background of the group. That changes now. We’re splitting Explorers out as a distinct section with its own programme, its own leaders and its own ambition. The goal is simple: to build a thriving, growing community where every young person aged 14 to 18 has a reason to keep coming back.
What Explorers can expect
- More outdoor time — expeditions, hikes, camps and nights away, not just evenings in the hall.
- More adventure — the bigger, bolder activities Scouting does best: climbing, water sports, expeditions and challenges.
- More fun — a programme shaped around what Explorers actually want to do, with plenty of social time built in.
- Real leadership — the chance to plan and lead their own activities, take on responsibility, mentor younger sections as a Young Leader, and work towards top awards and their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Real adventure, real curiosity
Explorers is where Scouting steps up. It’s about real adventure — trying things you can’t do anywhere else — and the confidence, friendships and skills for life that come with it. Whether your young person has come all the way up through the group or is completely new to Scouting, there’s a place for them.
