Viewpark Glen is a fantastic and spacious outdoor area not far from our regular meeting place. It offers outdoor areas both open and woodland. The Glen is currently being run by the Viewpark Conservation Group (VCG) who acquired the Glen in the last few years and have been transforming it into a beautiful outdoor area suitable for a myriad of outdoor activities.
The 144th Glasgow Scout Group has formed a relationship with the VCG to offer volunteer time to help with their many exciting projects in The Glen and take advantage of this fantastic area as well as participating in the outdoor activities they offer.
As of October 2024 we plan to have regular sessions in The Glen
Please drop off your young person as quickly as possible and on time so we can avoid being an obstruction to any locals or other Glen users.
If you are running late for a meeting please get in touch but bear in mind we may not be able to come back to the drop off points to meet you depending on the area we are using and the activity we're doing. If you cannot reach us or find us you may not be able to join that evening.
Do not send your young person off to find us in any situation. Ensure you have seen a leader present and we have acknowledged you.
Be aware of other glen users such as cyclists, pedestrians and dog walkers.
Follow the instructions of the leaders and rangers so we stick to the safe areas of the glen.
Stay with the group and always be with other people.
We will only ever leave footprints and take all litter away with us.
Be respectful of the glen and ensure nothing gets damaged.
Appropriate clothing for the weather. Waterproofs, hats, gloves scarves etc.
Any medication you may require.
A torch if we're going in the winter months.
Appropriate footwear, ideally boots or wellies.
Your group necky. Uniform not required but we'll advise if it is.
Snacks or Lunch for longer activities.
Depending on the activity we're doing in the Glen we'll use one of the below drop off points and we'll specify which in our information email.
Each drop off and the Glen itself is a public area and used regularly by pedestrians, dog walkers and cyclists.
Select below for directions to the various drop off points we'll mainly use for accessing the Glen. The primary drop off location will be Drop Off A in the centre of the Glen just off the A8 in the main car park.
If coming from Baillieston you'll need to take the A8 and turn back at the Shawhead flyover. The exit is the first one on the left with road markings. You'll exit the A8 Westbound at this junction. Follow the road over the M8 bridge to a turning circle. The main car park is here.
You'll exit the area by heading along the road parallel to the M8 and rejoining the A8 over a second bridge just before the Showcase, which will be on your right once you rejoin the A8.
Meet in the far corner of the Showcase cinema car park near the obvious white metal footbridge which goes over the A8.
Meet next to the swing park on Laburnum road in Viewpark. The Glen entrance is to the right of the swing park. Parking is on the street. Please be extra aware of not blocking any locals or buses when using this drop-off point.
Meet in the car park of the Integrity Martial arts building. If the car park is busy there is local street parking available and then please walk to the car park area to meet us.
Please ensure you park to the right hand side of this car park and exit as quickly as possible. We do not want to interfere with anyone attending Integrity sessions.
